The newest cars for the 2015 model year will likely be released after Labor Day. Of course, commercials touting them won’t likely be seen until later in the fall, but two things are certain: sales will emerge for 2014 models, and more 2015 models will include autonomous driving features. The next yearly offering of cars is yet another step towards the implementation of completely autonomous cars.
Driverless or self-driving cars are not expected to hit roads in large part until 2020 at the earliest. While this may seem like science fiction, the reality draws nearer with every year that passes. Nevertheless, there is a growing consensus that car accident rates will drop once these cars become a mainstream offering. This prediction is based loosely on how emotions and the lack judgment may affect human drivers from time to time.
Essentially, the systems incorporated into self-driving cars are not likely to drive while intoxicated, drive aggressively after being cut off in traffic; or send text messages while driving on the freeway. Meanwhile, the tiny cameras and radar set around the car will sense hazards before a human driver can and make adjustments before a driver can react.
In the meantime, drivers must rely on their own faculties and use reasonable care when driving in order to avoid accidents. This means that they must drive after drinking alcohol to excess, refrain from aggressive driving and stay off their cell phones.
